Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus is the regional provider for technical and career education, offering more than 25 programs with a variety of industry specific options, as well as certificates of proficiency, technical certificates, associate degrees and general education coursework.
The Ozark Campus is located on I-40 between Fort Smith and Russellville, Arkansas, in the city of Ozark.
The campus, which is more than 26 acres and includes a half-mile exercise path and disc golf course, is located along Arkansas Highway 23 North in Ozark, Arkansas.
The city of Ozark, with a population of approximately 3,500, is located on the banks of the Arkansas River and surrounded to the north by the Ozark National Forest and to the south by the Ouachita National Forest.
Located to the west of Ozark is the city of Fort Smith, a commercial and industrial center for western Arkansas.
Russellville, home to Arkansas Tech University's main campus and an area of vigorous industrial development, is located to the southeast of Ozark on Interstate 40.
Position Summary: The Carpenter is responsible for working in the maintenance/carpentry shop, and all associated carpentry repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: May performs general carpentry using hand and power tools to repair and build structures using necessary materials, such as; wood, sheetrock, roofing, painting, and glass instillation.
May assist other skilled tradesman to complete projects that require multiple departments to work together.
Maintains inventory on tools and parts specific to assigned trade.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades.
Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades.
Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades.
Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings.
Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
Ability to maintain inventory on needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades.
Minimum Requirements: The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; and at least two years of experience as a carpenter or painter.
Preferred Qualifications: At least 5 years of previous carpentry or construction experience.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands: The primary location of this job will be Arkansas Tech University, Ozark Campus.
Work could take place inside or outside, and could be exposed to the elements.
Standing for long periods, lifting, stooping, crouching, reaching, or climbing could all be required for any job.
