Meter Reader
Job Description:
The incumbent under the guidance of the Metering Supervisor is responsible for accurate reading and recording of water consumption of utility customers.
Work includes keeping of such records according to established forms so that billing can be made properly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.
1.
Read water meters on assigned routes.
2.
Record readings accurately into hand held computer.
3.
Code meters in need of repair.
4.
Complete all assigned work and Meter Service Orders (MSOs) daily.
5.
Answer questions from customers as needed.
6.
Ensure vehicle maintenance is performed as needed.
7.
Perform related responsibilities as required.
8.
Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge of the geography of the City is necessary.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Other Skills and Abilities:
The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment in the department.
The incumbent must have good verbal and written communications skills as well as good organizational skills.
Problem solving and analytical ability are required to perform the duties of this position.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
