Sweet and spicy Lil’Mama.
Four and a half year old Miniature Jersey X Zebu cross milk cow.
48 inches at the hip.
Perfect size for a homestead milk cow.
Lil’Mama is such a sweet, easy cow.
Her personality is just full of sunshine.
She does funny things like getting on her knees and tossing all her new bedding in the air.
Such a joyful, vivacious and delightful personality.
She makes us laugh.
Halter broke.
Loves to be brushed and loved on.
Knows how to use a milk stanchion.
Great mother.
Raises her own calf if you don’t want to milk her.
Or you can milk-share with her next calf.
Her last calf (see her grey calf in the last photo) is a beauty and was born in March 2023 out of a red and white 48 inch zebu bull (see in last photo).
She has had two calves back to back with this bull.
She is open at this time.
On Feb 21, 2024 she tested Negative for BLV, BVDV and Johne’s Disease.
And in November 2023 she tested negative for Brucella abortus and Q-Fever.
She is clean and ready to provide house-milk when the time comes.
We had her feet professionally trimmed.
She weighed 525 pounds in November.
She might weigh closer to 600# now.
We bought her in November 2023.
It was basically a ‘rescue’.
She came from a situation where she did not have enough to eat and was too thin.
She has gained weight easily for us on good grass hay, supplemented with a small bit of alfalfa hay (or sprouted grain).
She is going to be an easy keeper but at least needs good grass hay in front of her.
We don’t ever want her to go hungry again.
When she was a baby, the previous owners said that domestic dogs attacked her.
Her jaw was broken but healed on its own.
And her front teeth got damaged so she has only one tooth and a half of a tooth.
Basically she is a young cow with an old cow mouth.
None of her past history or the art of eating vigorously, has deterred her from enjoying life.
She has no trouble eating.
But she wouldn’t do well if she had to ‘scrounge for food’.
The reason we aren’t keeping her is that our two jersey cows are a lot bigger than her and during heat cycles we don’t want Lil’Mama injured by the bigger cows riding her.
She needs to be with a group of cows that are more her size and breed type.
And she needs a smaller bull then we have access to.
Because of her mouth situation, we are looking for a loving family that will enjoy adding her to their family and be sure she always has plenty to eat.
And when it is her ‘time’, we want someone that cares enough to gently and humanely let her go and either harvest the gift of her meat or bury her instead of dumping her in a sale barn.
We just don’t want her to be passed around and not be taken care of.
We want to shepherd this happy cow into the right hands that will advocate for her until the end.
If you feel you are the right family for Lil’Mama, let’s talk.
